<span>Sam Houston's second term lasted from 1841-1844. Early in his term, he tried to reinterest the United States in annexation, as the annexation had been dropped in the past. Texas legally joined the United States in December 29, 1845.</span>

<span>In his second term as President of the Republic of Texas, Sam Houston continued (without success) trying to have peace with Mexico, for which he planned to use a group of Texas Rangers and volunteers; I also wanted financial help from New York </span><span>businessmen </span><span /><span /><span /><span>to improve the economic and political situation of the new republic of Texas. Importantly, Houston sought to hold meetings with Mexico to seek official recognition of Texas independence, using the United Kingdom as mediators of the conflict. Several battles, such as the Battle of Salado Creek and the Dawson Massacre, were examples of their failed plans.</span>
