Answer: Frame shift mutation.

Explanation: An addition or deletion of one or more nucleotides during DNA replication causes a frame shift mutation. A frameshift is a type of mutation that changes the reading frame of the DNA. Because amino acids are coded for by three nucleotide sequences on the mRNA, an addition of an extra nucleotide in the DNA sequence during replication, will result to an mRNA with an extra nucleotide in its sequence and this will alter the reading frame during protein synthesis. The consequence of this is that wrong amino acids will be incorporated into the amino acid sequence of the protein from the point of the mutation to the end of the nucleotide sequence. This will result in a nonfunctional protein.

Which of the following is a way that new DNA can be introduced to bacteria?
OLEGan [10]

Answer:

B

Explanation:

The correct answer here would be that it can be injected by a virus.

Since a virus operates by taking over the genetic system of the host and uses its replication, transcription, and translation to make virions or viral particles through the lytic or lysogenic life cycle. In the process, if the virus is utilized as a vector to carry a foreign DNA, the DNA is introduced into the genome of the bacteria. This is exactly what happens during the process known as transduction.

The correct option is, therefore, B.
