Note the equal sign.

Isolate the x. subtract 12 from both sides

x + 12 (-12) = - 5 (-12)

x = - 5 - 12

simplify

x = -5 - 12

x = -17

x = -17, or (D) is your answer

hope this helps

How do you graph a linear equation?<br><br>For example, -18x+9y=72
nikdorinn [45]
Basically with the example you have you need to have the x and y variables on different sides.
Equation:
-18x+9y=72    (now you want to add 18x on both sides)
<u>+18x          +18x
</u><u>9y=72+18x </u>   (next you divide 9 to both sides to get x and y alone)
      9
y=8+2x (now that you have the x and y alone this is the final equation)

On the graph you want to put a dot on 8 since it's the y-intercept or the starting point of the equation. After that you want to add 2 every time you go by 1 on the x-axis. I have a picture of a graph...

<em>I hope this help you out :D</em>

I really need help on this!
Arisa [49]
(-6/5, -8/5), you substitute 3x+2 for the y in the first equation. So the first equation will read 2x+3x+2, then you solve and get x= -6/5. Then you have to solve for y, so you put your x value (-6/5) in the second equation for x. it should read y= 3(-6/5)+2, the answer to that is y= -8/5. After that you just put them in order (x,y) and there's your answer.

Mr. Clarke built a deck around the swimming pool and sandbox in his backyard. What is the area of the decking that surrounds the
ss7ja [257]

Answer:

1,174.8\ ft^{2}

Step-by-step explanation:

we know that

The area of the decking is equal to the area of the parallelogram minus the area of the pool minus the area of the sand box

Remember that

21\frac{1}{2}\ ft=21.5\ ft

so

A=(50)(35)-(20)(25)-(21.5)(7)/2\\A= 1,750-500-75.25\\A=1,174.8\ ft^{2}
