Answer:

The greatest number is 32 .

Step-by-step explanation:

As given

The ratio of three numbers is 4 : 3 : 1.

The sum of the numbers is 64.

Let us assume that the x be the scalar multiple of the numbers .

First number = 4x

Second number = 3x

Third number = x

Than the equation becomes

4x + 3x + x =  64

8x = 64

x = \frac{64}{8}

x = 8

Thus

First number = 4x

                     = 4 × 8

                     = 32

Second numbers = 3x

                             = 3 × 8

                             = 24

Third number = x

                       = 8

Therefore the greatest number is 32 .

Total value of ratio = 4+3+1 = 8

value of 1 unit = 64/8 = 8

numbers are 4(8), 3(8), 1(8) = 32, 24, 8

so, the greatest number is 32

First input 6x for y in the top equation

4x-18x=14

simplify

-14x=14

divide both sides by -14

\frac{-14x}{-14}=\frac{14}{-14}

simplify

x=-1

y=6*-1

simplify

y=-6

check

-4--18=14

simplify

-4+18=14

x=-1 y=-6

(-1, -6)

2. Sandy made a reflective sticker for her bicycle in the shape of a triangle. Two of the three side lengths were 3 cm and 4 cm.
harina [27]
(a) We assume the triangle to be a right angle triangle, we can use the Pythagoras theorem to proof whether the third side could be 6 cm. Let say the side of 3cm and 4cm are the two short sides, then
3^{2}+ 4^{2}=9+16=25
\sqrt{25} =5
The third side couldn't be 6 for a right angle triangle.
However, if the triangle isn't a right angle, we can construct a scalene triangle of 3cm, 4cm, and 6cm

(b) Similar to part (a), we assume the triangle to be a right-angle triangle, we take the hypotenuse to be 4cm and one shorter side to be 3 cm. Working out the other short side
4^{2}- 3^{2} =16-9=7
\sqrt{7} =2.65
In conclusion, we can't have a right angle triangle with sides 4cm, 3cm, and 1 cm
We, however, can construct a scalene triangle of sides 4cm, 3cm and 1 cm
