The correct answer is C) An imaginary line that separated communist countries from free countries in Europe.

The “Iron Curtain” that Winston Churchill referred to was "An imaginary line that separated communist countries from free countries in Europe."

On March 5, 1946. British Prime Minister Winston Churchill delivered the "Sinews Speech" in Fulton, Missouri. In the speech, Churchill referred to the "cold" relationships between the United States and the Soviet Union and the consequences this could have for the world. That is when he used the term "iron curtain" to refer to the imaginary line that separated communist countries from free countries in Europe.

I would say C. The Curtain symbolised the ideological conflict and physical boundary dividing Europe into two separate areas.
