After the Egyptians crushed cut cane and captured the juice, they boiled and strained the liquid, let it settle, then strained i

t again. The cane juice was now poured into molds with holes in the bottom, so that all the liquid could drain out, leaving only a powder. That powder was then mixed with milk and boiled again. After one round of these steps, the process was repeated all over again. As a result of all this effort and care, Egypt was known for the “whitest and purest” sugar.

The correct answer is D) The details describe the extensive and repetitive process necessary to create white sugar.

The details in the passage support the following central idea: The details describe the extensive and repetitive process necessary to create white sugar.

This wife and husband Marc Aronson and Marina Budhos wrote the book "Sugar Changed the World" and share how through history, sugar has been very important for humans since ancient civilizations, from Egypt to Europe in the MIddle ages, to South America.

In this excerpt of their book, the authors describe the complex details in the work of the Egyptians to create the "whitest and purest sugar." That was a long, repetitive, and tiring process to finally have the product ready to consume or trade.

In babylon revisited why did fitzgerald chose the title to be metaphoric of paris
Snowcat [4.5K]
Here are a couple of options to choose from as to why Fitzgerald chose the title to be metaphoric of Paris:
1. It represents the ruins of American "royalty" in Paris
2. Paris is living in wealth that will end in destruction.

In either case, it has to do with wealth that no longer exists or is about to be depleted because of overuse and hedonism. Just like Babylon disappeared, this place is going to be gone soon.
