-Stereocilia are not true cilia, they are very long projected microvilli, incapanble of movement on their own, in ear and male reproductive tract.

-Stereocilia are different from cilia, even though they have a similar name. They are more closely related to microvilli, and some may well consider stereocilia to be a variant of microvilli. They share some features of microvilli. However, stereocilia’s distinctive characteristics are their length and lack of motility. Stereocilia are basically apical modifications of the cell.

-Stereocilia are mechanosensing organelles of hair cells, which respond to fluid motion, or changes in fluid pressure in numerous types of animals for various functions, primarily hearing.
