I think that each shelf will be 19 inches.  Because 137 divided by 7 is 19 with the remainder of 4.  Half of 4 is 2. Take 2 inches off of each end and that is the 4.  So each shelf is 19 inches.

Answer:

19 inches.

Step-by-step explanation:

We have been given that Michelle has a plank 137 inches long that she wants to cut into 7 shelves of equal length. The plank has jagged ends, so she will start by cutting 2 inches off each end.

Since she cute 2 inches from each end, so she will cut 2*2 inches or 4 inches from both ends.

The length of plank left after cutting off jagged ends would be 137-4=133.

Now, we will divide 133 by 7 to find length of each shelf.

\text{Length of each shelf}=\frac{133\text{ inches}}{7}

\text{Length of each shelf}=19\text{ inches}

Therefore, the length of each shelf would be 19 inches.

1. Are the polygons similar?
jeyben [28]

The polygons are similar.

This is because dividing the corresponding sides forms the same ratio, as shown by the three equations below

35/28 = 1.25

25/20 = 1.25

(15.5)/(12.4) = 1.25

So the larger figure on the right has side lengths that are 1.25 times larger compared to the corresponding sides of the figure on the left.

You'll need to flip the figure on the left so that the side labeled "20" is along the top, and the "28" is along the bottom.

After this flip happens, also note that the angle arc markings match up. The bottom pairs of angles of each figure are shown with a single arc, while the top angles are shown as double arcs. This helps visually show which angles pair up and are congruent to one another.

Because we have similar proportions as discussed earlier, and congruent pairs of angles like this, this shows the two figures are similar quadrilaterals. The one on the right is simply an enlarged scaled up copy of the figure on the left.

Find the value of x and y. (geometry)
saveliy_v [14]
Ok so the value of x is 6 those lines on the 6 and x lines means that they are congruent. Then to figure out y you would use Pythagorean theorem 6^2+6^2
36+36=72
Square root 72 is about 8.5
8.5 would be y. Let me know if this is right and if this helps
