Romulus wanted to build Rome on the Palatine Hill and Remus wanted to do the same with Remoria on the Aventine.

It was decided that whoever saw the most vultures would gain control and decide the location of the future city. Remus saw six but Romulus doubled and triumphed.

Romulus drew the limits of the city and ordered that no one pierce them during the ceremonies, but Remus challenged him and pierced them, so they had a discussion that quickly degenerated into a fight, with Remus being injured and dying shortly after the wounds. Romulus buried his brother in the place where he wanted to found Remoria. Rome was officially founded then on April 21, 753 BC.
