Answer

Find out the what is the new ratio of the number of geese to the number of hens .

To prove

As given

There are 6 geese and 9 hens on Mr. Thomson’s farm.

Mr. Thomson adds 6 more geese and 3 more hens to his farm.

Than

The number of geese becomes  = 6 + 6

                                                      = 12

The number of hens becomes  = 9 +3

                                                     = 12

The new ratio of the number of geese to the number of hens be

\frac{Number\ of\ geese}{Number\ of\ hens} = \frac{12}{12}

simplify

\frac{Number\ of\ geese}{Number\ of\ hens} = \frac{1}{1}

Therefore the  new ratio of the number of geese to the number of hens be 1:1 .

3x - 4y = 18<br>x + 3y = -7
Mnenie [13.5K]

Answer:

x=2, y=-3

Step-by-step explanation:

x+3y+-7

move variable to the right and -3y from each side

x+3y-3y=-7-3y

x= -7-3y

3x -4y=18

3(-7-3y)-4y=18

solve for y, distribute

-21-9y-4y=18

collect like terms

-21-13y=18

move constant and change sign

-13y=18+21

add

-13y=39

divide by -13

y= -3

substitute

x=-7-3(-3)

solve

x=2

2x+3y=12 find four solutions
Nana76 [90]

Answer:

y = 0 and x = 6

y = 2 and x = 3

y = 4 and x = 0

y = 6 and x = -3

Step-by-step explanation:

2x+3y=12 is the equation of a straight line.

There are infinite number of solutions, but here you're probably looking for solutions where x and y are whole numbers. Trial and error will find you some, although if you examine the equation closely you see that if x is a multiple of 3 and y is a multiple of 2, then they produce terms that are the LCM (least common multiple) of 2 and 3, namely 6. That's the logic in the whole number solutions.
