1. We can see that the essay is written in first person due to the author's prevalence in using the pronoun "I", in addition to being able to perceive that he is telling personal experiences and thoughts. The author uses colloquial language, which is a more informal and relaxed language. The essay written using first person point of view and the language that the author use the informal and conversational sound is colloquial.

2. The author realized that there are many children in various parts of the world who are exposed to inhospitable situations because of poverty. These situations do not promote a good quality of life, a good education or a good security for children, besides making them lose their childhood by doing heavy and dangerous jobs, starving, most of the time. This was what motivated Kiel burger to start Free the Children.

4. These lines show how people in situations of extreme poverty know more about sharing and being supportive than the great world leaders who govern the big economies. This impacts Kiel burger and makes us realize that his moral values are based on solidarity and helping the society that needs it so much and has so much to teach.

5. The author is moved. That's because José and the boys from Brazil have very difficult lives, but they are always willing to share, talk and play, showing that they can find kindness even in sadness. The author does not see this as a glamorization of poverty, but as a personal growth that these boys learned during their lifetime.

6. Through photography, we can see that Craig Kiel burger is a young and economically privileged young man, since his face does not show marks of hard work in the midst of the sun and poverty. He appears to have a quiet, thoughtful personality who likes to reflect, reason and analyze.

7. Kiel has learned that it takes more than material possessions, parties and loves to be happy. José gave him the only shirt he had, knowing he would be cold, but he seemed happy to share something with a friend, this taught Kiel that happiness is in doing good, being kind, being supportive. Kiel burger learned an important lesson in Brazil, with José, that it takes more than material things to find true happiness and the meaning of life.

8. The lines show Kiel reasoning the teenagers he knows, including himself, and the teenagers he met in Brazil. It shows that the concerns and ways of looking at life are totally different and are important to realize how futile our concerns are at many times.

9. These lines reveal that the author recognizes that it is impossible to change any situation in the world with the work of just one person or a specific group. It is necessary for everyone to come together and each use their talents to shape society for the better.

10. When showing the dreams he has for each child he saw, he imposes an emotional tone on the rehearsal, showing that this is a very beautiful and admirable desire, but it is a dream, which shows that no one is sure that it will be reality.

Explanation:

When New York State recently marked the 100th anniversary of its passage of women’s right to vote, I ought to have joined the celebrations enthusiastically. Not only have I spent 20 years teaching women’s history, but last year’s Women’s March in Washington, D.C. was one of the most energizing experiences of my life. Like thousands of others inspired by the experience, I jumped into electoral politics, and with the help of many new friends, I took the oath of office as a Dutchess County, New York legislator at the start of 2018.

So why do women’s suffrage anniversaries make me yawn? Because suffrage—which still dominates our historical narrative of American women’s rights—captures such a small part of what women need to celebrate and work for. And it isn’t just commemorative events. Textbooks and popular histories alike frequently describe a “battle for the ballot” that allegedly began with the famous 1848 convention at Seneca Falls and ended in 1920 with adoption of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. For the long era in between, authors have treated “women’s rights” and “suffrage” as nearly synonymous terms. For a historian, women’s suffrage is the equivalent of the Eagles’ “Hotel California”: a song you loved the first few times you first heard it, until you realized it was hopelessly overplayed.

A closer look at Seneca Falls shows how little attention the participants actually focused on suffrage. Only one of their 11 resolutions referred to “the sacred right to the elective franchise.” The Declaration of Sentiments, written by Elizabeth Cady Stanton and modeled on the U.S. Declaration of Independence, protested women’s lack of access to higher education, the professions and “nearly all the profitable employments,” observing that most women who worked for wages received “but scanty remuneration.

Which figurative language device does Baldwin use to emphasize the rage buried beneath his father’s outward appearance and actio
Ivan

Before answering the question, it is convenient to mention that James Baldwin was a Black writer in the decade of the 50s and even though there were other Negro Writers in the literary world, they all suffered from racisms and social prosecution, the novel “Notes of a native Son” is close to an autobiography assembled from essays James Baldwin had written. In the novel the author intends to depict the hatred black people had to suffer at that time.

The figurative device that Baldwin uses to emphasize the rage buried beneath his father's outward appearance and actions is:

The paradox “vindictively polite.”

Here the word "vindictive" is expressing the inner rage that was beneath his father outward appearance, and the word "polite" expresses the overt emotions or actions.
