Bernice's aunt serves as her guide, a watcher, a mentor who keeps reminding him to act and behave politely as much as possible. As per her aunt, she should be polite, gentle, proper and domesticated. These attributes should be considered most, for being smart is not enough. Her aunt was mad when she cut her hair very short.
