1) we calculate the number of students at Granite College (males + females).

x=number of total students.
40% of x=1200
Then, we have the next equation:
(40/100)x=1200
x=(1200*100)/40
x=3000.

2)we calculate the number of male students at Granite College.

male+female=3000
male+1200=3000
male=3000-1200
male=1800.

Answer: there are 1800 male students at Granite callege.
