Answer:

Fossils can be defined as remnants of plants and animals that have lived on the earth many years ago. Coal can be defined as a solid type of fossil fuel which is formed from decayed plants.

Coal arises from different plant debris such was roots, leaves, trees that settle in swamps, the seperation and gathering of these debris forms what is known as "peat". Folds of the peat covered by sediment is exposed to heat and pressure for millions of years to form coal.
