Yes, because in order for 5/8 to have the same denominator as 11/20, you multiply 5 and 8 by 2.5, which equals 12.5/20.

5/8 is more than 11/20

If we find the lower common multiple of the denominators which is 160 then we can multiply the top numerators by the opposite denominators

5x20=100
11x8=88

We now have
\frac{100}{160}  and  \frac{88}{160}

The one on the left is simplified to 5/8 and the right is simplified to 11/20

The answer is: reduction
Explanation: since there are prime number markings on the smaller shape, that is the second version. In other words, the bigger shape was the original because there are no prime markings (‘) on it and to turn into the smaller shape, it had to shrink (reduce)

A ship sailing parallel to shore sights a lighthouse at an angle of 14° from its direction of travel. After traveling 4 miles fa
timama [110]

Answer:

  C.  6.19 mi

Step-by-step explanation:

The angle between the two ship locations as viewed from the lighthouse is ...

  23° -14° = 9°

This is opposite the known side of the triangle: 4 miles. The unknown side, the distance to the lighthouse from the second position, is opposite the 14° angle in the triangle. The Law of Sines can be used to find the distance (d) of interest:

  d/sin(14°) = (4 mi)/sin(9°)

  d = (4 mi)(sin(14°)/sin(9°)) ≈ 6.1859 mi

The ship is 6.19 miles from the lighthouse at the second sighting.
