Why do many cities near the California coast begin with san or santa?

Many cities near the California coast begin with San or Santa because that area was primarily explored by the Spanish and settlements centered around Catholic missions. In Spanish, San and Santa both mean saint. San is the male form and Santa is the female form. So San Francisco would mean Saint Francis in English (a male saint). Santa Anna would mean Saint Anne (a female saint).

Answer:

Many cities in California begin with the prefix San or Santa because this state, before joining the United States, was a Spanish colony. The Spanish colonial empire had within its ideological bases the diffusion and territorial expansion of Catholicism, which is seen in the names of the cities that were founded during their possession of the lands that today make up the state. The prefixes San and Santa refer to the Catholic saints, so cities like San Diego or Santa Monica make direct reference to these saints. Other cities such as Los Angeles or Sacramento also refer to issues related to Catholicism in the Spanish language.

krek1111 [17]

Downfall of Mali Empire:Weakened by attacks and internal rewbellion. The Mali lost it's hold on the Gold and Salt trade. The Songhai empire was then able to grow in power and take previously held Mali territories. Downfall of Songhai Empire: The moroccan armies invaded songhai, which led the fall of songhai empire. Downfall of Ghana Empire:In the 11th century, when the Almoravids, a militant confederation of Muslims, began to attack the empire and even conquered it for a time. Though their grip on power did not last long, the chaos they brought to the region destabilized trade, hurting the empire's sources of income.

Which of these issues was addressed by the Carter administration?
podryga [215]

Answer:

Welfare reform

Explanation:

In his campaign, Jimmy Carter had frequently asserted, ""If I'm elected president, you're going to have welfare reform next year." He promised to replace the problems of the existing system with one that would encourage work and family life, and that would "reflect both the competence and compassion of the American people." In August, 1977, President Jimmy Carter announced his proposals for reforming the welfare system in the United States.

However, President Carter's plan did not win support in Congress, and in fact never received a vote in Congress.

So welfare reform most definitely was a key issue for the Carter administration and addressed by his administration, but his reform plans were not enacted into law.

Note: The same thing could also be said about tax reform. The Carter administration proposed tax reform legislation which also was rejected by Congress.
