System of equations?

simultaneous equations
step 1: write the equations as follows:

5x + 2y = 7   (1)
-2x + 6y = 9  (2)

eliminate x or y. I am going to choose x, and I will eliminate it as follows:

(x2)  ...5x + 2y = 7 (1)
(x5)  ..-2x + 6y = 9 (2)

now I will complete the multipication:

          10x +   4y  = 14 (3)
         -10x + 30y  = 45 (4)

Now add each of the terms as follows: 10x + (-10x)= 0 [i.e. they cancel], 4y and 30 y = 34y. and finally, 14 + 45 = 59 , so, you get:

34y = 59
divide both sides by 34 to get:
y = 1.735294118

but remember, in the question, you were asked to round your answer to the nearest tenth, that is the number straight after the decimal point, because 1/10 (or a tenth) = 0.1. So, since the next digit after this is 3 (i.e. lower than 5), the final answer is: 1.7

Three out of four student surveyed in a school said they will vote for nuncio for class president. Predict how many of the 340 s
elena55 [62]
3/4 is .75. translate that to percentages, and you get 75%. This means that it is likely that 75% of the 340 students in total will vote for Nuncio.
write it out:
.75*340
solve:
255

about 255 students are likely to vote for Nuncio

For each pair of numbers, tell: By what percent of the first number is the second number larger? By what percent of the second n
marishachu [46]
The answer for the first question is 10%.
Reason: The second number (110) is larger than the first number (100) by 10 it is 10% the first number.
.
The answer for the second question is 25%, also.
Reason: The first number (100) is smaller than the second number (110) by 10 and it is 9.1% of the second number.
