Ability–achievement discrepancy is the term used for the difference in scores between intelligence quotient and achievement scores.

Explanation:

Achievement scores measure what you think you can achieve.  They measure a person's ability to move on to a higher grade in life or learning.  It is concrete.  Intelligence quotient is more encompassing than achievement scores but they depend on each other.  Intelligence quotient measures intellectual ability, that is the ability to assimilate.  Achievement scores measure the <u>progress</u> being recorded in developing one's intellectual <u>ability</u>.
