During the 1960s, American youth became much more active when it came to topics of culture and politics. While these topics were considered somewhat restricted to the older population, young people were very active in movements such as the anti-war movement, the feminist movement and the civil rights movement. All of these led to the passage of the 26th Amendment, which lowere the voting age from 21 to 18.
