Reconstruction era began after the Civil War in America. The main goal was to try to correct the issue of Southern states' politics, economic, and social, along with the inequities of slavery. During this period, the rectification of the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments passed. The amendments gave rights to the African American by making slavery illegal along with equal citizenship and protection of the laws. It also allowed African Americans to vote without any rejection from governments. All these gave African Americans their identity and freedom.
