Read this passage. Explain how the writer's choice words helps readers see that the Gleasons were not used to eating like Chines

e people. I I glanced at Meg, to see if she needed more food, and my eyes nearly popped out at the sight of her plate. It was piled with food: the sweet-and-sour meat pushed right against the chicken shreds, and the chicken sauce ran into the prawns. She had been taking food from a second dish before she finished eating her helping from the first! Horrified, I turned to look at Mrs. Gleason. She was dumping rice out of her bowl and putting it on her dinner plate. Then she ladled prawns and gravy on top of the rice and mixed everything together, the way you mix sand, gravel, and cement to make concrete. I couldn't bear to look any longer, and I turned to Mr. Gleason. He was chasing a pea around his plate. Several times he got it to the edge, but when he tried to pick it up with his chopsticks, it rolled back toward the center of the plate again. Finally he put down his chopsticks and picked up the pea with his fingers. He really did! A grown man!

Answer:

The writer shows the narrator's surprise at the Gleasons' eating habits by saying that her "eyes nearly popped out." She provides descriptive examples, including Mr. Gleason eating with his fingers. The word choice makes it clear that the narrator recognizes that her approach to eating Chinese food is different from the Gleasons'.

Explanation:

This is the sample response. I suggest you put it in your own words because I learned the teacher checks it.

Why are "good morning", "good afternoon", and "good evening" introductions but "good night" is a kind of goodbye?
Alina [70]
Good night is seen as a farewell for a few reasons, but the biggest one is that you're implying that you'll be headed to bed. In the morning, you're just getting ready to start a new day, while good evening and good afternoon both imply that there is still time left in the day. Good night is used to signify the end of your day.

Hello my name is (name of dragon). I looked at my feathery sisters and brothers. I have always looked different from the rest of my family. I was giant and breathed fire when I’m nervous. One day I was walking to the pond when I looked at my reflection. I looked like the rest of the dragons that lives near! Was I one of them? Of course I was. I looked exactly like them. So that day I realized I was a dragon!
Hope it helps

Which word in the sentence is most clearly used denotatively?
Valentin [98]

Answer:

Watched

Explanation:

Watched has literally no emotion in it.

However, grabbed, slammed, and stormed could be wrote with the connotation of anger, but watched simply has no emotion in it. If the writer would have wrote 'stared,' that could have meant shock.

In any case, the answer is watched.
