Keratin is responsible for skin color. The more the melanin in the skin, the darker the skin color of the person. Collagen and keratin makes up nails and hairs. Elastin is a connective tissue that connects the epidermis and the dermis. The dermal papillae nourishes the root hairs.

The skin protein such as keratin, melanin, elastin, and collagen are extracellular matrix proteins that plays a major role in maintaining the elasticity and texture of the skin. The dermal papillae is the region that  is present in the outer most layer of the skin that helps in the formation of hair follicles.
