Denby changes tone when he is talking about different movies and ones he appreciates vs. ones he does not like. He achieves these changes by providing more laudable language for the different catagories.

Well if an author uses very negative words, then the tone of the article goes that way. If they were discussing something political and the author used a lot of hurtful words then it makes the tone of the article seem very anti whatever they were writing about.
