Economic:

The peasant class was very poor and was taxed horribly because the King wass spending all his money.

Also they just got out of a war that they were not payed for yet(American Revolution)

Political: The king was taxing the life out of the lower classes which caused resentment

Social: the Enlightenment was causing some problems bc it challenged the views everyone held about rights, authority, religion, etc.

Musa I (1312-1337), commonly referred to as Mansa Musa, was the tenth mansa, which translates as "king of kings" or "emperor", of the Empire of Mali. At the time of Musa's accession to the throne, the Malian Empire consisted of territories formerly belonging to the Ghanaian Empire and Mali and surrounding areas, Musa obtained many titles, including Emir of Mali, Mines Lord of the Uangaras, and conqueror of Ganata, Futa Jalom, and at least another dozen states. He was recognized as the richest man in history.

Considering that the original 13 colonies were founded in the eastern seaboard of the country and that until the post WWII period the major population centers shifted from the East to the West of the country it is only natural and logical. Indeed, the eastern seaboard was the most industrialized and populated area of the USA for a long time and most immigrants entered the country through New York. Pennsylvania was also heavily industrialized and a major mining area.  

With more immigrants pouring in every year, the potential for more criminal acts increased and to keep up, more prisons were necessary. There is also the huge factor of labor rights activism, which was criminalized by employers and judges in order to keep workers docile and submissive. Many strikers and labor unions were incarcerated as well and more prisons were needed for that purpose.
