This quote can be understood as Jefferson's dislike for government with a strong power- a government that wants to control and regulate too much can harm the people rather than be beneficial for them. For this reason the concept of limited government was developed-a government that does not have too much power

Thomas Jefferson's quote can be related to the principle of limited government, as the quote fully states 'Most Bad government has grown out of too much government." It means that the terrible governments we have seen around like tyranny or a dictatorship have stemmed from the government have too much power or being to overwhelming, so this is relates to limited government as the government is confined to its small area of power- unable to grow larger.


This quote can also relate to separation of powers as if one part of the government has too much power, it could over take the other two parts and become a government that is not wanted. however with separation of powers this is less likely to occur as the branches have to constantly make sure that no one branch has to much power over the other ones.
