The internet and social media provided challenges for the political process by providing something much more entertaining to watch. For example, instead of someone wanting to learn more about a presidential candidate, they would rather watch funny cat videos or see who's about to break a bone by jumping off a 2 story roof. The internet in general is very distracting because it always gets you to click on something, but not just something random, something interesting. It Google, Yahoo, Amazon, etc. have bought and sold cookies to other companies that go through your search history and advertise what you look though or like.
The Ninety-five Theses led to the Reformation, a break with the Catholic Church that declared hegemony in Western Europe. Humanism and the Renaissance then played a direct role in sparking the Reformation, as well as in many other contemporaneous religious debates and conflicts.
