Now, several arguments against were raised against this political movement. On the other, annexation was based on the will of a power group with strong connections to the United States, but which did not represent the will of the Hawaiian people. Therefore, it was in a way an illegitimate act that curtailed the sovereignty of a country and the will of its inhabitants.
The small group of residents organised the second constitution conference. The pro slaverly draft won, largely because the free states opposed the referundum and did not participate.
Later after a bitterly contested election was conducted, after which the state representatives opposed the pro salverly draft.
Eventually, the state emerged as a free state, after a period of blood bath. The period is called bleeding kansas.
