Answer:

Slope is rise over run.  To calculate rise over run you go from a point to the next. In your case, the rise over run is 1000/1. So your rate of change is 1000. Your y-intercept form equation is y=1000x+0, because 0 is the y-intercept.

0x1000+0=0

1x1000+0=1000

2x1000+0=2000.

3x1000+0=3000

So, if it's asking what time the balloon is at 5000 ft, you do 5000/1000=5. (you'd divide by your rate of change because division is opposite of multiplication). So, at 5 minutes, the balloon will be at 5000 ft.

Since 2 seconds is 1/30 of a minute, you do 1/30 to get .03. .03x1000+0= 30.

This means the balloon will be 30 feet in the air at 2 seconds.

The balloon will reach 10,000 ft at 10 minutes. You take the feet and divide by the slope. 10,000/1000 = 10 and 10x1000+0=10,000

The sum of two numbers is 18. The sum of the greater number and twice the smaller number is 25. Find the numbers.
Vikki [24]

The smaller number is 7 and the greater number is 11.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let,

x be the smaller number

y be the greater number

According to given statement;

x+y=18     Eqn 1

y+2x=25    Eqn 2

Subtracting Eqn 1 from Eqn 2

(y+2x)-(x+y)=25-18\\y+2x-x-y=7\\x=7

Putting x=7 in Eqn 1

7+y=18\\y=18-7\\y=11

The smaller number is 7 and the greater number is 11.
