I'd think that one advantage of nationalism is the unity it builds among people who share the same nation, who start to think of each other as co-citizens.
One disadvantage of nationalism is the hate can be directed against outsiders.

Nationalism is a political, social, and economic ideology that is based on the promotion of the interests of a certain nation. Nationalism alleges that each nation should be able to govern itself and be free from any external interference from foreign powers.

An advantage of nationalism is that it aims to preserve a nation's culture and traditions. Things that many countries are losing nowadays as a product of globalization. It was also the driving force behind independentist movements in many regions throughout the world.

A disadvantage of Nationalism is that, combined with religious beliefs or ethnical backgrounds, may lead to prejudice towards other populations. This is particularly dangerous as it could be a leading cause of war.

As more settlers moved West how did they interact with Native tribes
Karolina [17]

The Indians living in the area where Jamestown was settled must have had mixed feelings about the arrival of the English in 1607. One of their first reactions was hostility based on their previous experience with Spanish explorers along their coastline. They attacked one of the ships before the English actually landed. Yet the Indians soon began to offer food and traditional Indian hospitality to the newcomers. At first, Powhatan, leader of a confederation of tribes around the Chesapeake Bay, hoped to absorb the newcomers through hospitality and his offerings of food. As the colonists searched for instant wealth, they neglected planting corn and other work necessary to make their colony self-sufficient. They therefore grew more and more dependent on the Indians for food....

Why did Lincoln’s election as president convince southerners that they had lost their voice in the National government?
frosja888 [35]

In the 1850's Northern sympathies with the South eroded over the issue of slavery. The Democratic Party split into Northern and Southern factions, permitting Lincoln's Republican party to gain control of Congress and the White House in 1860. The South realized they no longer had allies in control of the Federal Government.
