From within the roots of our nation

Is where my allegiance stems

As I stand upon this soil

Stained dark and rich by the blood of our forefathers

We stand as a union of brothers and sisters

Where everyone is our equal

Our leaders be seen as family over monarchy

Offering guidance instead of sovereignty

We shall not taint the Earth

With the tar in which the others spew

We shall stand pure of heart as we flourish alongside mother nature

In perpetual harmony

May kindness and clemency be offered

To any strangers who wash up upon our shores

Let them be clothed in the warmest robes

And let them be treated as one of our own

For we are Alok-Wran

The nation of Kindling embers

We are Alok-Wran

Our swords drawn only to enact justice

Long live our beautiful nation

With its valleys of deepest green

We stand as a solid union

Upon the soil of Alok-Wran

Which quotation from the poem "Ellis Island" supports the theme "A culture of conquering others is unhealthy”?
meriva

Answer: B. After leaving the sickness, / the old Empires of Europe

Explanation:

The Old Empires of Europe being the British, the French, the Spanish, The Portuguese, The Dutch, and The Germans amongst others, got to the level they were at by conquering new lands from North America to Australia. Indeed at it's height, the British Empire controlled 24% of Earth as we know it now.

Joseph Bruchac (the Poet), in the poem, likens these Empires to being sick. To having become inherently unhealthy because all they thought about was conquest essentially drawing a comparison between conquest and sickness to say that conquering others can make one sick and unhealthy just as it did these Old Empires of Europe.
