The best way to tackle this question is to go through each answer and pointing out the errors.

"That book, I think is available at the library." A comma doesn't quite make sense here. A hyphen might be more appropriate. <span>

"</span>I'm exhausted after swimming, generally, speaking." This example would be correct if there wasn't another comma after "generally". This is because "generally speaking" is one phrase, and shouldn't be separated.

"There will be snow, I believe during tomorrow's festivities." This is the opposite of the previous answer. If there was a comma after "I believe", the sentence would be punctually correct. This is because "There will be snow during tomorrow's festivities" is the point of the sentence, but is interrupted with more information.

That leaves D. as the correct answer.

Which description creates the strongest contrast between the setting and the character's mood?
leonid [27]

The correct answer is C. Jaideep felt a strange calm as he stared out the window at the trees twisting in the storm.

This description creates the strongest contrast between the setting and the character's mood because a storm with twisting trees is associated with feelings of fear, darkness, chaos, unease and intensity. Jaideep feeling a sense of calm looking at the storm is the opposite of the setting's mood.

What details from a story best help develop the theme?
stepan [7]

Answer:

Character motivation and plot.

Explanation:

The character motivation and plot of the story are the most important details to show the theme.

Character motivation is the character's why. Why are they doing what they are doing? What inspires them? What motivates them?

Plot is the whole story. It is what is going on to all of the characters in the book, TV show, movie, etc.

Theme is the big idea of the story. It is usually one word, like "friends" or "work." It is the big thing for you to learn when you finish the story.

Now, character motivation and plot are the most important for the theme because they are the main things that drive the story. The author can insert aspects of the theme into the character's motivation and the plot of the story.

For example:

James was a tiny bit hungry for a sandwich. He had exactly enough money in his pocket to go to the sandwich shop and satisfy his tiny hunger.

(James' motivation is that he wants a sandwich because he is a little bit hungry.)

As James approached the sandwich shop, he came across a homeless person. The person was dirty and sitting against the wall of the shop. James walked past him and prepared to eat his delicious sandwich so he wouldn't be a tiny bit hungry anymore.

As James ordered his sandwich, he felt that the homeless person was more hungry than he was. He went outside and gave the person his sandwich.

(James' motivation changes by the end of the story. He no longer wants to satisfy his small need, but to help the homeless person who needs the sandwich more than him.)

The plot of the story is that James is hungry for a sandwich, he sees a homeless person, buys a sandwich, and gives it to the homeless person.

The theme of the story is gratefulness. James should be grateful that he has the freedom and ability to buy a sandwich, while the homeless person doesn't. He learns that by the end of the story.)

50 POINTS PLS HELP FAST
denis-greek [22]

Answer:

Boundless and bare

A second meaning or sound - alike word used to create humor.

Thunder and lightning will ruin a pool party, so the weather really isn't "great."

Explanation:

I'm not too sure for number one, but situational irony is basically saying that the situation makes the actions in it have the opposite effect. I'm pretty sure that boundless and bare is the right thing.

A pun is a joke that uses the multiple meanings of a word. The answer is a second meaning or sound - alike word used to create humor.

In verbal irony, the speaker intends to be understood as meaning something that is the opposite to the literal or usual meaning of what the speaker says. in this case, I think it's thunder and lightning will ruin a pool party, so the weather really isn't "great."

Recommend TWO ways in which a person should approach conflict resolution in order to sustain health relationships.
solmaris [256]

Answer:

Step 1

I seek to understand the other side before wanting to be understood.

Conflict resolution often goes in the wrong direction when people only focus on making the other side understand them.

If both sides only seek to be understood, there can’t be any constructive dialogue.

I try to tell the story of the conflict from the other side’s: What is their intention? What are their need/want? Where are they coming from?

**their = his or her.

Step 2

I identify the *real* Issues

Once I understand the other side, I can better assess what this conflict means to me:

I visualize the current state and the ideal situation. The gap between those two is the real issue. If there is no (foreseeable) gap for me, then there is no conflict for me.

But if there is a gap, I look for a pattern and the layers in the conflict. I ask why? at least 5 times to get to the core of the conflict.

Step 3

Seek the Win-Win situation

If I know what’s at the core of the issue and believe to have a good understanding of the other side, it’s now time to negotiate and find common ground.

My general approach to find the win-win situation is to kill the other side with kindness.

I first acknowledge their feelings and ask them if what I think they want is what they want. If I assessed the other side incorrectly, I listen and re-evaluate my understanding of their situation. If necessary, I apologize but never expected an apology in return.

In this negotiation I also make sure that I get what I want. The key to sustainable healthy relationships is to approach conflict resolution knowing and not loosing sight of exactly what you want. Please forget about ever resolving any issues with anyone if you don’t know what you want to get out of the interaction with other people.

At the end of the negotiation, I summarized what happened and reiterated what needs to happen in the future to avoid further conflict. If needed, I allow myself to be corrected. It’s very important for both sides to walk away feeling good about the conversation.

Step 4

Check and Adjust

Some conflicts might appeared solved, but as variables change, there might be new negotiations needed to re-adjust the win-win situation.

Also one must contemplate that not every conflict is meant to be solved because not every conflict has a real impact or because its resolution is not important to one of the sides.

It takes two to not only to tango but to create and resolve conflict.
