One of the powers that the executive branch has in the United States is that of pardoning those who committed certain offences against the United States. This is granted to the President under Article II, Section 2 of the Constitution. This article is understood as including separate processes, such as pardons, conditional pardons, commutations of sentence, conditional commutations of sentence, remissions of fines and forfeitures, respites, and amnesties.
