    Wind erosion is one of the existing types of environmental degradation. It is caused by the action of winds and can cause transformations that impact the environment, such as the removal of thin surface fragments from the soil, transporting them to other places and thus modifying two or more environments.

    Many places near the coastal regions of the world have dunes, which are mountains composed by the wind effect. This type of erosion, if caused over a long period of time, can completely change the natural landscape, as it does in many parts of the Sahara Desert in Africa.

    Carved rocks, recessed areas and the appearance of small lakes are the result of strong deflation. Dry soil makes it easier to move surface fragments, so strong concentrations of wind erosion are near the coasts (where winds are higher) and in deserts.
