It is a good way to gather demographic information because it's very accurate. Censucount.org says that "The Census Bureau reported a net national overcount of 0.01% in 2010" which means they are only off by a little, but still effective. THe demographic information is then used to decide where to distribute the funds and taxes for schools, public areas, supermarkets, etc.

The fire from the explosion wouldn't stop, and the first responding firefighters died of acute radiation poisoning.  The town was evacuated, as it is today. Today, some people consider the area around Chernobyl a natural reserve, as wildlife is growing it the radioactive area.
