Legionnaires disease usually occurs two to ten days after exposure to legionella bacteria. It usually begins with the following signs and symptoms:
Headache
Muscle aches
Fever
On the second or third day, the person will have other signs and symptoms, including the following:
Cough with mucus
Shortness of breath
Chest pain
Gastrointestinal symptoms
Confusion or other mental changes
Although legionnaires disease mainly affects the lungs, occasionally may cause infections in the wounds and other parts of the body, with liver and kidneys.
