The Federalists are advocates who think the American foreign policy should favor British interests while the Democratic-Republicans are advocates who wanted to strengthen ties with the French.
The Federalist Party was headed by Alexander Hamilton and John Adams and they called for more national government control. They believed that with the national government having more power than states, they could create a better and more equal United States of America. One of the things they called for was national government regulation of the trade between states. The Federalists believed that such regulation would better protect the rights of states which were otherwise small or in a poorer position to negotiate.
The Federalists and the Anti-Federalists argued primarily over the issue of the strength of the national government in the newly formed United States. The Federalists sought to strengthen the power of the national government whereas the Anti-Federalists sought to strengthen the power of state governments.

Girolamo Savonarola was an Italian priest active in Renaissance Florence. He was well known because of his denunciation of the Church's corruption, but also because of his prophecies of biblical renewal. He believed Florence would become the "new" Jerusalem, and that all secular art would be destroyed. He was eventually excommunicated, hanged and burnt in the main square of Florence.
He was able to amass a huge following during most of his life, and there were several reasons why his doctrine became so popular:
- General discontent with the abuses of the Church among the population. He also criticized the power abuses of the Medici, and the ills of society.
- It gave the people an alternative to the standard understanding of Catholicism. In fact, he criticized much of what Martin Luther would later condemn. Because of this, he is considered a precursor of the Reformation.
- His prophecies of destruction coincided with the invasion of Charles VIII of France, which threw Italy into chaos. Many believed this was proof of Savonarola's gift of prophecy.

I would support the federalists because they believed in a strong central government that would help to unite the states. Along with this, the creation of a new stronger federal government would help to solve the problems America faced under its first constitution, the Articles of Confederation. Under the Articles of Confederation, the federal government could not tax or even raise an army. With the new US Constitution, the federal government would have these necessary powers in order to ensure safety within American society.
Anti-Federalists
I would support the Anti-Federalists because they were advocates of states rights. Along with this, the Anti-Federalists knew that a central government with too much power could very easily result in a monarchy, much like the one the United States experienced when controlled by Great Britain.
