Jobisdone [24]

Answer:David O. Selznick and Louis B. Mayer

David O. Selznick, son of silent-movie producer Lewis Selznick, was already on his way through the ranks of new-to-talkies Hollywood when, in 1930, he forged the greatest union of Hollywood families in history by marrying Louis B. Mayer’s daughter Irene. Selznick had left MGM for Paramount and then RKO when he returned to work with his father-in-law at MGM in 1933, given a job as vice president and head of his own production unit at the studio. By then, Mayer was one of the most powerful studio heads in Hollywood, overseeing “more stars than there are in heaven.” In 1927, Mayer amassed 36 founders from various parts of the film industry to create the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences—the organization responsible for the Academy Awards. The guidance of his father-in-law at MGM paid off for Selznick when he left in 1935 to head up his own independent studio, Selznick International Pictures, which produced the likes of A Star Is Born (1937), Rebecca (1940), and (adjusted for inflation) the highest-grossing film of all time, Gone with the Wind (1939). His son Daniel Selznick became a film producer as well.

How does popular opinion shape political policies? Mccarthyism
devlian [24]

Answer:

Political policies are indirectly a product of the public opinion. Any democracy elects the nominees as a representative who would cater to their needs and who work for a better and more developed society and living conditions. The political parties are there to formulate and execute public policies that would govern the people and the country itself. The public opinion is the one ingredient that is crucial to shape these policies. For instance, an educational policy will highly depend on the present need and the condition of the education system, the analysis of which would be closer to the reality only if based on public opinion. And hence political policies are shaped by popular opinions.

Explanation:

The total combined population increase is (when we round the addends)

I will round in the thousands place.

To do it, we must look at the hundreds place, if the decimal is 5 or larger, we round up.

If the decimal is smaller than 5, we round down.

16,074 ≈ 16,000

27,945 ≈ 28,000

16,000 + 28,000 = 44,000

Which piece of evidence best reveals the narrator’s feelings about her family’s behavior during dinner
Alenkinab [10]

Answer:

This question is related to a short story "Fish Cheeks" by Amy Tan

Amy's parents invited the Minister and his family for a Christmas Eve dinner. However, Amy felt really embarrassed because of her family's behavior during the dinner.

The reason was that Amy's family was Chinese, they had different traditions and customs, and had a different taste in food, comparing to a typical American family. Her mother cooked all the family's favorite dishes like Fish cheeks, tofu and squid, which are usually not found on a table of an American family on Christmas Eve. Moreover, her relative ate noisily with chopsticks and were reaching across the table to get the dishes, rather them passing them. Her mother also told the guests that she made Fish cheeks because they were Amy's favorite. The worst part was the end, where Amy's father belched loudly after the dinner and explained the guests how it was a way of appreciating the food in Chinese culture.

The following paragraph can be considered as the best piece of evidence about Amy's feelings during the dinner:

"Dinner threw me deeper into despair. My relatives licked the ends of their chopsticks and reachedacross the table, dipping them into the dozen or so plates of food. Robert and his family waited patiently for platters to be passed to them. My relatives murmured with pleasure when my mother brought out the whole steamed fish. Robert grimaced. Then my father poked his chopsticks just below the fish eye and plucked out the soft meat. “Amy, your favorite,” he said, offering me the tender fishcheek. I wanted to disappear. At the end of the meal my father leaned back and belched loudly, thanking my mother for her fine cooking. “It’s a polite Chinese custom to show you are satisfied,” explained my father to our astonished guests. Robert was looking down at his plate with a reddened face. The minister managed to muster up a quiet burp. I was stunned into silence for the rest of the night."
