In general, the British had a relatively good relationship with the Indians for at least a little bit, as they understood the importance of forming treaties for their own survival. The Spanish were less concerned with this and were more likely to wage attacks.

The evidence was inconsistent and it was a murder and a robbery that they committed which under normal circumstances would not have such a severe punishment. However, they were considered to be anarchy radicals and extremists in so the red scare helped the case punish them much more severely.
