The Nonaggression pact

Germany and the USSR took part in a "nonagression pact", which meant that there would be no fighting in between each other. It was broken after the Nazi's started Operation Barbossa, a surprise attack that took huge swacth of land from the USSR.

The sinking of the USS Maine lead to the Spanish-American War because the American battleship was docked in Cuba, then a Spanish territory. When it blew up alot of American citizens thought it was the Spanish because it was docked on a Spanish island. The Spanish however told the US that it was rebels that blew it up. To this day no one knows who or what blew up the US battleship USS Maine. <span />

The Treaty of Paris, ending the Spanish-American War, was signed on December 10. Spain gave up Guam, Puerto Rico, its possessions in the West Indies, and the Philippines in exchange for a U.S. payment of $20 million. The United States occupied Cuba but, as provided for in the Teller Amendment, did not try to annex it.
