I cannot see which words are underlined, but according to what I've read, the last sentence gives it away: 'The white man has more words to tell you how they look to him, but it does not require many words to speak the truth.' This tells me that 'Chief Joseph is going to select his words very carefully' because the truth does not require a lot of words.

Therefore, we can see that he commanded to be executed, removed his own eyes, and banished himself, but the only thing he did not do was option D which was solving the riddles that lead to his ruin.
