The war actually began on 25th June 1950 after the invasion of South Korea by North Korea. The invasion resulted in the series of clashes along the border. As a result of it, Turman appointed General McArthur the Supreme commander of the united force to take control of the situation. Mc Arthur Landed with 10000 marines comprising of 40,000 men and 8,600 ROK soldiers at Inchon on 15th September 1950 and by the end of the month, he was able to recapture Seoul and drive North Korean forces completely away from South Korea.
