A series of programmed changes encoded in dna, through which a fertilized egg divides into many cells that ultimately are transformed into an adult organism, is known as development.

A fertilized egg first divides into a mass of cells called the morula. After about 5 days of fertilization, it forms a hollow ball of cells called the blastocyst. The cells in the outer layer of the blastocyst develops into the placenta and the inner mass of cells forms the tissues of the embryo. Cells of the inner most layer differentiate into the ectoderm forming the skin and the brain, mesoderm forming the muscles, bone, heart, kidney and the endoderm forming the gut lining, liver and the pancreas. This is called the complete development of the fertilized egg into the fetus.

Life- history evolution in guppies (Poecilia reticulata: Poecilii- dae). IV. Parallelism in life-history phenotypes.
Phantasy [73]

The guppies evolved at a rate between 3700 and 45,000 Darwin's. For comparison, artificial-selection experiments on mice show rates of up to 200,000 Darwin's while most rates measured in the fossil record are only 0.1 to 1.0 Darwin.

Guppies introduced to a low-predation environment adapted to their new environment by producing larger and fewer offspring with each reproductive cycle. No such adaptation was seen in guppies that colonized a high-predation

With each generation, more guppies passed on the gene for small spots to their offspring. The rocks became smaller. More guppies with small spots survived long enough to pass on the gene for small spots to their offspring the rocks became smaller.
