I really need help with this. English isn't my first language, and I've asked 3 different people and no one is able to explain t

his to me at all. I do online school, and the teachers aren't allowed to do anything that falls along the lines of tutoring. Thank you very much!

If you ever swam in a pool and your eyes began to sting and turn red, you felt the effects of an incorrect pH level. pH measures the concentration of hydronium ions and can be modeled by the function p(t) = −log10t. The variable t represents the amount of hydronium ions; p(t) gives the resulting pH level.

Water at 25 degrees Celsius has a pH of 7. Anything that has a pH less than 7 is called acidic, a pH above 7 is basic, or alkaline. Seawater has a pH just more than 8, whereas lemonade has a pH of approximately 3.

Create a graph of the pH function either by hand or using technology. Locate on your graph where the pH value is 0 and where it is 1. You may need to zoom in on your graph.
The pool maintenance man forgot to bring his logarithmic charts, and he needs to raise the amount of hydronium ions, t, in the pool by 0.50. To do this, he can use the graph you created. Use your graph to find the pH level if the amount of hydronium ions is raised to 0.50. Then, convert the logarithmic function into an exponential function using y for the pH.
The pool company developed new chemicals that transform the pH scale. Graph the parent pH function p(t) = −log10t and the transformations below on the same graph. Send the graph to your partner. Your partner will explain which transformation results in a y-intercept and why. You may graph by hand or using technology. Use complete sentences.
p(t) + 1
p(t + 1)
−1 • p(t)
Image by goodtextures: http://fav.me/d2he3r8
p(t)=-log(t)
p(.5)=-log(.5)= 0.3

y=-log ^(0.5)
10^-y= 0.5
10
p(t)+1
Red line on graph, this transformation has shifted up by 1. This translation doesn't result in a y-intercept.
p(t+1)
Blue line on graph, this transformation is shifting to the left by 1. This translation results in a y-intercept because it crosses the y-axis.

A cone-shaped paper drinking cup is to be made to hold 27 cm of water. Find the height h and radius r of the cup that will use t
andreyandreev [35.5K]

Answer:

  • r = 2.632 cm
  • h = 3.722 cm

Step-by-step explanation:

The formula for the volume of a cone of radius r and height h is ...

  V = (1/3)πr²h

Then r² can be found in terms of h and V as ...

  r² = 3V/(πh)

The lateral surface area of the cone is ...

  A = (1/2)(2πr)√(r² +h²) = πr√(r² +h²)

The square of the area is ...

  T = A² = π²r²(r² +h²)

Substituting for r² using the expression above, we have ...

  T = π²(3V/(πh))((3V/(πh) +h²) = 9V²/h² +3πVh

We want to find the minimum, which we can do by setting the derivative to zero.

  dT/dh = -18V²/h³ +3πV

This will be zero when ...

  3πV = 18V²/h³

  h³ = 6V/π . . . . . multiply by h³/(3πV)

For V = 27 cm³, the value of h that minimizes paper area is ...

  h = 3∛(6/π) ≈ 3.7221029

The corresponding value of r is ...

  r = √(3V/(πh)) = 9/√(π·h) ≈ 2.6319242

The optimal radius is 2.632 cm; the optimal height is 3.722 cm.

_____

The second derivative test applied to T finds that T is always concave upward, so the value we found is a minimum.

__

Interestingly, the ratio of h to r is √2.

Simplify the expression 10-4x(6+5-1) divided by 8+7
Eddi Din [679]
Simple,

writing out the problem...

\frac{10-4x(6+5-1)}{15}

Simplify it...

-4x(6+5-1)

-4x(11-1)

-4x(10)

-40x

Making it look like...

\frac{10-40x}{15}

Cancel out the common factors...

Thus making the answer:

- \frac{2(4x-1)}{3}.

What is 15 tens - 1 gross
vampirchik [111]

Answer:

see the explanation

Step-by-step explanation:

we know that

A gross is equal to 120 ones or ten dozen

what is 15 tens - 1 gross

we know that

15 tens means ----> That you are adding 10, 15 times or multiplying 10 by 15, which gives you

10(15)=150

1 gross means ---> That you are adding 10, 12 times or multiplying 10 by 12

which gives you

10(12)=120

so

The algebraic expression of 15 tens - 1 gross is equal to

150-120=30
