the great depression was basically caused after the stock market crash of October 1929 caused by investors selling over priced stocks which send the whole market crashing causing the economy to go down there was no money so the people were left homeless jobless and broke which is why this agonizingly slow recovery, the entire decade of the 1930s in the United States is referred to as the Great Depression
