2/5 is the answer to this question because of distributive property. 1/10+1/2=3/5 Then, 3/5-1/5 is equal to 2/5.

First you get p on the side by itself p=1/10-1/5+1/2. Next you find a common denomenator which is 10 so p=1/10-2/10+5/10 and you get 4/10 which reduces to 2/5. To check this on a Ti-84 calculator store 2/5 for x and put x in the place of p and type in the equation and your answer will be 1/10

How do I get my parents to let me quit extra math (RSM) even after I've tried for a while
Fudgin [204]

Maybe offer to make a deal with them where if you get all A's in your normal classes you can quit. It really depends on why you're taking the class in the first place. If it's not affecting your grades in any way, maybe it's best to just stay for the benefits of it.

Kate's father is 32 years older than Kate is. In 5 years, he will be five times older. How old is Kate?
Sedbober [7]

In 5 years, the ratio of their ages will be 5:1, so the difference in their ages will be 4 ratio units. Those 4 units correspond to 32 years, so each unit corresponds to 32/4 = 8 years.

Thus, in 5 years, Kate will be 8 and her father will be 40. Right now, Kate is ...

... 8 - 5 = 3 years old.

_____

Using equations

Let k represent Kate's current age. Then in 5 years Kate will be k+5, and we will have ...

... 5(k+5) = (k+5)+32 . . the relationship betewen their ages in 5 years

... 5k +25 = k +37 . . . . eliminate parentheses

... 4k = 12 . . . . . . . . . . . add -25-k

... k = 3 . . . . . . . . . . . . . divide by 4

Kate is 3 years old.
