Check the picture below.

so we have two rectangles and one triangle, as you see there.

now, the large rectangle is just a 10x8, so that's 80 ft².

the small rectangle is just a 4x4, so that's 16 ft².

the small triangle, notice, it has a right-angle, thus it has a height of 4, and a base of 2.

recall A = (1/2)bh, so the area of the triangle is (1/2)(2)(4) = 4 ft².

80 + 16 + 4 = 100 ft².

First let's find the area of that big rectangle. We know the width is 8 and the height is 10. 8×10=80. Now if you take away that rectangle, there will only be a square and a triangle. We know that the width of the square is 4. In order to find the height, we would do 10-6, which equals 4. We specifically do this because the height of the rectangle is 10, and the height of the square is 10-the height of that extra part that is 6 ft. So to find the area of the square, we would do 4×4, which equals 16. Now the triangle. The height is the same height as the square, so 4. The base is 14-(8+4) because we take away the 2 extra places, which is 8 and 4. 8+4=12 and 14-12=2. So to find the area of the triangle, we would do (base×height)/2, which is (2×4)/2=8/2=4. So now we add them all. 80+4=84 and 84+16=100

Answer:

I don't think you are doing anything wrong. Just ignore it and write the repeating decimal. If you're asked to do it, round it up instead.

What is the distance between the points (-6,7) and (-1,1)?
Nataly_w [17]

Answer:

\sqrt{61}

Step-by-step explanation:

To find the distance, we first do B - A, where B is (-6, 7) and A is (-1, 1):

(-6, 7) - (-1, 1) = (-6+1, 7-1) = (-5, 6)

Imagine it as a triangle, where the hypotenuse is the distance, and -5 and 6 are the lengths of the sides.

To find the hypotenuse (Pythagorean Theorem):  \sqrt{(-5)^2+6^2} =\sqrt{25+36} =\sqrt{61}

The answer is the square root of 61.
