After reading the passage, it my be said that the narrator seems to feel that despite being busy all day, he had the chance to enjoy the place, to breath. maybe it was like an "injection" of energy for him this such fresh air he was able to feel. he is even comparing it to a place with a polluted air which gives him another perspective of the fresh air he was able to find in this place.
