What must happen before meiosis can begin?

Biology

Hello! Your answer is B, the chromosomes must replicate.

Meiosis is a process which takes one diploid cell (46 chromosomes) and makes 4 haploid cells (23 chromosomes). In order to do this, the DNA must divide. This is because it takes 46 chromosomes, to make 4*23 chromosomes, or 92.

We see here that the amount of chromosomes must double before meiosis. This therefore means A is incorrect, as the DNA only needs to duplicate 2 times. This also proves B correct, as the replication of chromosomes is what we're looking for.

C and D are incorrect, as they are actual processes in meiosis, meaning they do not happen before.

Hope this helps!

Describe the general effects of the following microclimates:
Murljashka [212]

Answer:

a) The loss of moisture from the landscape and the resulting semiarid or arid conditions on the leeward side of high mountains. The winds blowing in from the ocean are forced upward when they come to the mountains and leave most of their moisture on the windward side. Once they get over the mountain, they need more moisture and absorb it from the leeward side ( the side that gets no wind), thus creating the inland desert.

(b) Bricks, concrete, asphalt, and other building materials absorb and hold heat, and buildings block wind flow. Motor vehicles and the climate controls systems of buildings release large quantities of heat and pollutants.

A cardiac muscle cell is: A. a voluntary muscle just like skeletal muscle. B. contracts spontaneously. C. is joined to other car
Diano4ka-milaya [45]

Answer:

E. Two of the statements above are correct i.e. options B and C

Explanation:

Cardiac muscles, also known as myocardium, are one of the three types of muscles found in the heart (the other two being skeletal and smooth muscles). Cardiac muscle cells are striated and branched in structure, with only one nucleus located centrally i.e. mono-nucleated.

Unlike the skeletal muscles, cardiac muscles are involuntary muscles controlled by certain parts of the brain. The cells that make up the cardiac muscles are connected to one another by structures called intercalated discs. Also, cardiac muscle cells contract spontaneously i.e. internally. Hence, options B and C are correct
