This process is essential for the body and its parts to function smoothly and effectively. It is also essential for the ability of the brain to extract and organize information about the world.

The nervous system can do this, because neurons (nerve cells) have a part (called dendrites), which are designed to combine or integrate information. They get connections, called ( synapses) from many other neurons and combine the signals from them.
