Past is the key to present is given by the law of uniformitarianism. Thus its important for the scientists to study the life on earth.

Explanation:

  • The principle of uniformitarianism is geology suggests that the same earth process that used to operate earlier is also operating presently but not with the same intensity as then.  
  • So for studying the processes when life began on the earth its essential for scientists to have knowledge of the pat landscape which was formed by the same process like river erosion, wind erosion, glacier erosion and deposition that continue even today.
  • James Hutton gave this concept in 1785, presenting the fact that history can be recreated with the help of certain factors, such as weathering of bedrocks for thousands of years ago.
